Cardiff Airport occupies an unusual position among UK city airports in being genuinely out in the country. It sits at Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, a dozen miles or so south-west of the capital, with no motorway running to the door. The terminal itself is small and simple to be met in. The interesting part of any arrangement here is what happens once you leave it.

The airport also handles a good deal of leisure traffic that returns late in the evening, which means a fair proportion of the collections we make here happen in the dark on country roads. That is not a problem, but it is a reason to arrange the car properly rather than trusting to whatever happens to be outside. This guide covers the arrival end from reclaim belt to boot.

A single terminal at Rhoose

One passenger terminal serves the whole airport, and the route through it is short. Arriving passengers come down to the reclaim hall, through the customs channel and out into the public arrivals area, where the meeting point is immediately visible. There is no second building, no shuttle, and no realistic way to emerge somewhere your chauffeur is not standing.

The scale of the place is part of its appeal. After a late flight, walking a few dozen paces to find your name on a board is a better experience than crossing a large concourse looking for a stranger. It also means the car is not far away, so the interval between the doors opening and the boot closing is genuinely brief.

Where a chauffeur can wait

In the public arrivals area with a name board, facing the doors, having already parked. When you come through, the cases are taken and you are walked to the car. That is the extent of it. Your chauffeur will have been in position before the aircraft came onto stand, which is the entire reason the meeting takes seconds rather than phone calls.

As at every airport we serve, we hold no airside access whatever. We are an independent chauffeur company with no affiliation to Cardiff Airport, its handling agents or any airline flying from it. Nobody meets you before customs, nobody accompanies you through the border, and nothing is expedited. What is offered is presence, punctuality and the luggage taken off your hands.

Clearance and the flights that shape it

Cardiff is a modestly sized airport and it usually behaves like one. A domestic or short-haul arrival with a light load can clear quickly, and travellers with hand luggage only are often outside within a few minutes of the aircraft parking. That is the pleasant end of the range and it happens frequently enough to be worth mentioning.

The other end is a full holiday charter returning with a hold of large cases, particularly if it lands close to another arrival. As a planning assumption we would ordinarily allow somewhere in the region of twenty to thirty minutes from the published landing time for a short-haul flight with checked luggage. It is a figure for building the arrangement around rather than a promise about queues.

In every case the waiting sits on our side. The board is up before you appear, a sensible allowance is included in the booking as standard, and if a delay stretches beyond it a message on WhatsApp keeps everything intact. Nothing that would extend the arrangement is applied without agreeing it with you first.

Late-night arrivals in the Vale

Holiday services land at Cardiff well into the evening, and the roads out of the airport at that hour are dark, rural and quiet. For a driver who knows them that is easy going. For a tired family in an unfamiliar hire car it is considerably less so, which is a good part of why arrivals here are arranged in advance more often than at a city-centre airport.

Your chauffeur waits in the arrivals area regardless of the hour, and the drive afterwards is generally quicker than the same journey in daylight, since the Vale roads and the M4 are both clear at night. What we ask is that the onward address is given properly at booking, because a rural Welsh address with no visible number at eleven at night is best resolved beforehand.

The onward drives

This is where Cardiff Airport becomes interesting. Its position in the Vale of Glamorgan puts it within reach of some of the best driving in Britain, and a great many guests fly in here specifically for what lies beyond. The city itself is the shortest run; the further you go west and north, the more the journey becomes part of the trip rather than a means to it.

Give us the full destination address and postcode at booking. It determines the vehicle we suggest, the route out of the airport, and how the timing is set. Country house hotels in the Wye Valley and cottages in Pembrokeshire are entirely ordinary destinations for us, but they are journeys that reward being planned rather than improvised at the terminal door.

  • Cardiff city centre and Cardiff Bay, the shortest run from the terminal
  • Newport and the eastern valleys, with the M4 doing most of the work
  • Bridgend, Porthcawl and the Glamorgan Heritage Coast
  • The Brecon Beacons and the country houses on their southern edge
  • Swansea, the Gower and the road west
  • Pembrokeshire and the far coast, a proper drive worth planning
  • Bristol and the West Country across the Severn when flights suit

Details worth sending in advance

The items below take a minute to send and settle almost everything that could otherwise become awkward at the kerb. The onward address matters more here than at most airports, simply because so many of the destinations are rural and not all of them are easy to find in the dark.

If anything changes after booking, send it by message. A different flight, an extra case, a child seat now needed. The arrangement is adjusted rather than improvised, and it takes far less effort to do that the evening before than in an arrivals hall at midnight.

  • The flight number and scheduled arrival time
  • How many passengers, with children's ages where relevant
  • A counted total of large cases and cabin bags
  • Any child seat needed, with age and weight
  • The full onward address and postcode, plus a landmark for rural properties
  • A WhatsApp number reachable on landing

In Short

Key Points

  1. 01A single small terminal makes the meeting quick and hard to get wrong
  2. 02Allow around twenty to thirty minutes clearance for a typical short-haul arrival
  3. 03Late-evening holiday landings are routine and planned for as normal work
  4. 04Rural onward addresses should be given in full at the point of booking
  5. 05No airside access exists here or anywhere, so the hall is where we meet

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Choose Luxury Chauffeurs

  • 01

    Held, not hailed

The car is reserved against your name for the whole booking. Nothing is pooled, nothing is reallocated, and no algorithm decides who arrives at your door.

  • 02

    Priced in writing

Distance, duration, vehicle and timing are worked out before you commit, then confirmed in writing, so the figure you agree is the figure for the journey.

  • 03

    London and beyond

A short run across Mayfair and an unhurried drive to the Highlands are arranged with the same care, by the same people, under one booking.

  • 04

    Discretion as habit

Unbranded vehicles, chauffeurs who speak only when spoken to, and a rear compartment where a confidential call needs no lowering of the voice.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  1. 01

    Tell us the journey

Send the date, the addresses and the shape of the day on WhatsApp, or use the journey planner. There is no obligation and no card details are taken to get a price.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Corporate & Business

Business Travel Across Britain

Corporate chauffeur work runs to a diary rather than a postcode. Meetings overrun, a signing drags past six, and the airport leg still has to make check-in. Because the vehicle is committed to your booking, a revised plan costs a message rather than a fresh price. Accounts can be arranged so individual travellers never handle payment, and the paperwork is kept plain enough for a finance team to reconcile without chasing anybody.

The rear compartment is treated as a working space. Cabins are quiet enough for a confidential call, papers can stay open on the seat between stops, and chauffeurs understand that what is overheard is not repeated. Roadshows, board visits and conference movements involving several cars are coordinated centrally, so one person holds the schedule and one thread carries every change to it.

Before You Send

What to Tell Us

None of it is compulsory. The more you include, the sooner we can reply with a firm written price rather than a question.

  1. 01

    Where and when

Pickup and destination addresses, the date, and the time you need to arrive rather than leave.

  2. 02

    Who is travelling

Passenger numbers, large cases and cabin bags, and the ages of any children so we fit the right seats.

  3. 03

    The shape of the day

One journey, a return, or a car held for several hours. Say if the timings might move.

  4. 04

    Flight or event details

A flight number lets us plan around the published schedule; an event name tells us which gate and which traffic plan.

  5. 05

    Vehicle preference

A category is enough — or ask us to recommend one for the party and the distance.

  6. 06

    Anything else

Accessibility requirements, a preferred route, a stop on the way, or a quiet car with no conversation.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
