The Goodwood estate above Chichester hosts several distinct occasions across the summer. The Festival of Speed turns the parkland drive into a hillclimb course in July; the horse racing high on the Downs runs through the warm months; and the Revival in September gives the motor circuit over to period cars, period aircraft and a crowd dressed with real commitment. Each has its own character, and each involves several miles of walking on grass and gravel.

The value of a chauffeur here sits mostly at the edges of the day. Estate parking is in fields, sometimes a considerable distance from the entrance, and the tracks turn quickly in wet weather. Being set down at the gate and collected from an agreed lane means period shoes stay clean, cameras stay dry, and nobody has to remember which field they left the car in once the light goes.

Chichester is roughly two hours from London on a clear run down the A3, but the last few miles through the Downs villages are narrow, steep in places and easily blocked, so build in a generous margin. September evenings on the circuit turn cold long before you expect them to, and the estate is exposed.
