The Arrival Is
Part of the Occasion.

A fleet is usually described in classes, which tells you very little about how a journey will feel. Ours is described by name. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the quiet, unfussy car for a single passenger and a tight schedule. The S-Class and the fully electric BMW i7 are the flagship saloons, built around the rear seat and the hours you spend in it. The V-Class seats six in individual armchairs with a case each, which solves the problem that defeats every saloon.

Above them sit the cars people book for the occasion itself. The Mercedes-Maybach extends the S-Class and gives the whole of that extra length to the rear compartment. The Rolls-Royce Ghost is the restrained one, the Phantom the one that will be in every photograph, and the Cullinan the one that arrives properly at the end of a long gravel drive — as will the Range Rover Autobiography. A wedding is not a transfer. It is three or four movements with long, deliberate gaps between them, and the value of the car is mostly in the waiting: outside the house while the last photograph is taken, outside the church while the confetti is found, outside the reception while somebody fetches a coat. We quote the whole day as one arrangement, dress the car in your colours, and keep the same chauffeur from the first collection to the last.

The same logic applies to the rest of the year. The event season — Ascot, Wimbledon, Goodwood, the opera, a milestone dinner — rewards a car that is at the door when you come out rather than forty minutes away. For a party of more than six we run two vehicles in convoy with one briefing and one point of contact, which is how most event bookings are actually shaped.

The most rewarding work we do takes several days. Private chauffeur-driven tours through the Cotswolds, Oxford and Bath, a week between country houses, a Scottish itinerary that ends somewhere north of Edinburgh. The same car, the same chauffeur, and a route that bends around what the weather and your appetite suggest rather than around a coach timetable.

Shorter long-distance journeys work on the same principle and win on a straight comparison with the train more often than people expect. Door to door, no changes, no platform, luggage that stays where you put it, and four hours that become working hours or sleeping hours rather than waiting hours. We quote the movement as one price including the return leg and any waiting between.

Three reasons, in the order clients give them. The car is held rather than hailed, so the thing you booked is the thing that arrives. The price is written down before you commit and covers the tolls and congestion charges along the route, so the figure at the end is the figure at the beginning. And one person handles the enquiry, the quotation and the booking, so nothing is explained twice.
