The City is a single square mile with its own authority, its own police force and a working population many times its residential one. Bank sits at the centre with Cornhill, Threadneedle Street and Lombard Street radiating from it; Leadenhall Street and Fenchurch Street run east towards Aldgate; St Paul's and the Barbican hold the western and northern edges. Almost everyone we carry here is working — a client meeting, a closing dinner, a car to the airport at the end of a long day.

Bank junction is closed to most traffic during weekday daytime hours, and Bishopsgate carries restrictions that catch out drivers who do not work here regularly. The whole City runs at twenty miles an hour and its security cordon means several approaches are one way or camera-monitored. Stopping is difficult on Cheapside, Gracechurch Street and Fenchurch Street, so we use the quieter turnings behind them. The City lies inside the congestion charge zone, and the charge is arranged by us.

The rhythm here is the working day, and its edges are the busy parts. Early collections from home for a breakfast in EC2, transfers between offices when a meeting overruns and the walk is too far in the rain, and the evening run home or on to dinner in the West End. Client travel is the other constant: collecting a visiting delegation from Heathrow or London City, taking them to their hotel, then to the office at eight the following morning.

London City Airport is typically 25 to 45 minutes east, which makes it the natural choice from EC3. Heathrow runs 55 to 90 minutes and is best attempted before half past six or after ten in the morning. Stansted is usually 55 to 85 minutes up the M11, Luton 50 to 85 via the A1 or M1, and Gatwick 60 to 100. Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street stations are minutes away for the eastern counties.

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Clients Choose Us for City of London

  • 01

    The Square Mile learned

Cameras, closures and access-only turnings change more often here than anywhere in Britain. Our chauffeurs work the City weekly and route around them without narration.

  • 02

    Nothing leaves the car

Deals are discussed in the back of ours regularly. Chauffeurs are briefed, cars are unmarked, and what is said between EC2 and Heathrow stays there.

  • 03

    Waiting a street away

Almost nothing in the City permits a car at the door for long. Yours holds in a legal bay nearby and returns the moment you message.

  • 04

    Both ends, one booking

A six o'clock collection from home and a half past eleven return after a closing dinner are the same booking, with the same chauffeur if you prefer.

At a Glance

City of London

  • Restrictions known in advance

Bank junction and the Bishopsgate limits are planned around rather than discovered at the sign.

  • Office-to-office transfers

Short City hops when a meeting overruns, with the car already waiting a street away.

  • Client collections

Visiting colleagues met at the terminal, taken to their hotel, and collected again the next morning.

Local Knowledge

What the Square Mile allows

The City's road rules are unlike anywhere else in the country, and they change. Beyond the well-known junction closure, Paternoster Square is private and gated to vehicles, Broadgate around Liverpool Street is a pedestrian estate in all but name, and Beech Street beneath the Barbican has carried its own access restrictions. Countless addresses sit on courts and alleys that no car has ever entered, so the useful question is always which street you can actually be met on.

Movement through the City relies on a handful of arteries. Upper and Lower Thames Street carry the fast east-west traffic along the river, London Wall and Queen Victoria Street take the rest, and Moorgate, Aldersgate and Old Broad Street handle the north-south load. Cycle lanes have narrowed several of them permanently. Utility works appear overnight and disappear a fortnight later, which is why a route is checked on the morning rather than remembered from last month.

The Square Mile empties and fills more dramatically than any district in London. From roughly seven to half past nine the bridges and the Bishopsgate corridor absorb the inbound crush; from five the same movement runs in reverse and Blackfriars and London Bridge become the bottlenecks. After eight in the evening the streets are almost empty and a car crosses in minutes. Weekends are quieter still, though occasional closures for events catch the unprepared.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  1. 01

    Tell us the journey

Send the date, the addresses and the shape of the day on WhatsApp, or use the journey planner. There is no obligation and no card details are taken to get a price.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Corporate & Business

Travel built around the deal

In EC2 to EC4 the chauffeur is a working tool rather than a flourish. During a live transaction the car becomes the only private space available: a call taken between a counterparty's offices and your own, a document read without a stranger's shoulder beside it, a stretch of quiet before a board meeting. We hold vehicles through the night on completion weeks because that is when the work actually finishes.

Hosting inbound colleagues is the second constant. A delegation lands, is met at the terminal with the flight already tracked, reaches the hotel, and is at the front door at eight the following morning with the same faces driving. Where several vehicles are needed, one person coordinates them so the office is not fielding drivers. Billing runs through an account, and no traveller is ever asked to settle anything personally.

Who We Drive

Who Travels with Us for City of London

  • Partners and directors

Senior people whose diaries are built by somebody else and whose travel simply has to work without becoming a subject of conversation.

  • Deal teams under pressure

Analysts and associates moving between counsel, printers and counterparties during a live transaction, often at hours when nothing else is running.

  • Inbound clients

Visitors flown in for a single day of meetings, met at the terminal, held through the schedule and returned to the aircraft without gaps.

  • Livery hall guests

Guests attending a dinner at one of the halls, arriving in formal dress on a wet January evening with no intention of walking.

Events & Occasions

Dinners, halls and evenings

The City entertains more formally than the rest of London. Livery hall dinners, institutional receptions and black-tie evenings around Guildhall and Bishopsgate fill the calendar from autumn onwards, and they finish at an hour when the district has long since emptied. Dress shoes and a January pavement are a poor combination, which is why the car waits rather than being summoned afterwards.

There is a leisure City too, and it belongs to the weekend. Concerts and cinema at the Barbican, exhibitions, the cathedral, and the restaurants around Spitalfields and Leadenhall that now open when the offices do not. Journeys at these hours are quick and the routing is straightforward, so an evening here is one of the easier things to arrange well — provided the return is settled before you set out.

Timing & Availability

Notice and the City calendar

Weekday mornings between seven and nine are the busiest period we run anywhere, and a car for that window is worth confirming as soon as the meeting is in the diary. Reporting season, the autumn conference run and the whole of December stretch capacity further. The quiet fortnights are mid-August and the days between Christmas and the New Year, when the Square Mile all but closes.

Late and open-ended work is normal here and we plan for it rather than around it. If a dinner might run to midnight or a signing might not happen until two, say so and the car is held accordingly. Where a schedule looks undeliverable — three meetings and an airport in one afternoon — we will tell you before the day rather than during it.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
