The Royal Crescent, the Circus and Great Pulteney Street were laid out for occasions rather than errands, the Roman Baths sit beneath the middle of it all, and the whole city is wrapped in steep green hills. Guests come for spa weekends, for weddings, for the Christmas market, and for the pleasure of walking somewhere that has been beautiful for three hundred years without needing to try.

This is a difficult city to park in and an easy one to be set down in, which is the entire argument for a chauffeur here. We handle the Royal Crescent and the Circus, the hotels along Great Pulteney Street and up on Lansdown, the station at the bottom of the hill, and the climb out to Widcombe and Bathwick that nobody in evening dress enjoys on foot after dinner.

Castle Combe and Lacock lie north east and look like film sets because they frequently are. Stonehenge is around an hour south east across the plain, Longleat a similar distance, and the southern Cotswolds begin at Tetbury within half an hour. Bristol is thirty to forty minutes west, which makes a two-city stay comfortable without moving hotels or repacking a single case.

Bristol Airport is nearest at around forty to fifty minutes, while Heathrow is roughly two hours by the M4 and remains the usual choice for long-haul. From London the M4 to Junction 18 and down through Bathford typically takes two and a half to three and a half hours. The train to Bath Spa is quick, and we meet it at the front of the station rather than the side.

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Clients Choose Us for Bath

  • 01

    Kerbside, not car park

Almost nowhere in the centre lets you park near where you are going. Being set down at the door and collected from it is the whole proposition here.

  • 02

    Hills taken seriously

The city climbs steeply in every direction. Lansdown, Bathwick and Widcombe are pleasant in daylight and punishing at midnight, which the timings quietly account for.

  • 03

    Gravel drives found

Country houses outside the city hide their entrances behind hedges and unlit lanes. Your chauffeur has the approach before setting off, not while reversing out of it.

  • 04

    Zone rules handled

Bath runs a clean air zone across the central streets with its own rules by vehicle type. That is our problem to solve, and it is settled before you travel.

Bath

  • Set down at the door

The Crescent, the Circus and Great Pulteney Street have almost no parking and a great deal of gravel.

  • Hills after dinner

Lansdown and Widcombe are unkind in evening shoes, so the car collects rather than meets you halfway.

  • Stonehenge and Lacock

Both sit within an hour, which turns a spa weekend into something with a little more in it.

Local Knowledge

Bath is a bowl with steep sides

The usual approach from London leaves the M4 at Junction 18 and drops down the A46, which is quick until the last two miles at Batheaston, where everything funnels into a single road. From the south the A36 and A367 climb in over the hills instead. Two and a half to three and a half hours is realistic from central London, and Friday afternoons and summer weekends sit at the longer end of that.

In the centre, Stall Street and Union Street carry no traffic, the Abbey Churchyard is pedestrian, and the loop around Pulteney Bridge sends you back where you started if you miss a turn. The Royal Crescent and the Circus are laid with setts and belong to residents' permits, so a car stops long enough for people and luggage and then leaves. Bath Spa station has a tight forecourt, and a meeting point on Manvers Street usually works better.

The last mile to a country hotel is the part people underestimate. The houses out towards Colerne, Hunstrete and the Somerset villages sit at the end of long private drives with a small sign and no lighting, and the lanes are single track with passing places. We confirm the entrance rather than the postcode, because a postcode here can land you in a field a mile short of the gates.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Corporate & Business

Business and away days

Bath is not a commuter city and its corporate work has a different shape: board days at a country house, university and research visits up at Claverton, and teams brought over from Bristol for something that needs to feel like an occasion. Journeys tend to be fewer and longer, with waiting built into the middle of them rather than at either end.

For conferences and offsites the practical difficulties are parking and the hills, in that order. We handle arrivals in groups, hold cars nearby through the day, and run the evening leg to a restaurant and back afterwards. Where a company is settling the bill, it can be arranged centrally so guests are never asked for anything on arrival.

Who We Drive

Who Travels with Us for Bath

  • Spa weekenders

Couples arriving on a Friday with no intention of driving again until Sunday, and every intention of a long lunch somewhere with a view.

  • Wedding parties

Families spread between the city hotels and a village half an hour out, needing several cars, staggered timings and a driver who knows the lane.

  • Milestone celebrations

Birthdays and anniversaries where the point is the evening itself, and the car waiting outside the restaurant is what makes the whole thing effortless.

  • Visitors touring the West

Guests using Bath as a base for Wells, Wiltshire and the southern Cotswolds, looking out of the window rather than at a windscreen.

Events & Occasions

Weekends worth dressing for

The spa weekend is Bath's signature and it works best when nothing has to be timed to the minute. A car is held from Friday evening, taking you to dinner in the centre, out to a village pub on Saturday and back up the hill afterwards. Between those it simply waits. Guests staying in the crescents keep luggage in the boot rather than dragging cases across cobbles.

Weddings here fall into two halves: the ceremony in the city, at the Abbey or one of the Georgian rooms, and the reception somewhere down a lane with a marquee and a gravel yard. Bridal cars, guest shuttles and a late run home are planned as one movement. Christmas market weekends and the March half marathon both close central roads, and both need earlier departures than anyone expects.

Timing & Availability

The Bath calendar

From late November the Christmas market fills every weekend and the roads around the Abbey slow to a shuffle from mid-morning onwards. Early May brings the horse trials at Badminton within easy reach, September has the Jane Austen festival and its parade, and rugby fixtures at the Recreation Ground tighten the Pulteney Road side of the city on Saturday afternoons.

Wedding season runs May to September and Saturdays go first, usually months ahead. Midweek in January and February is the easiest time to arrange something at short notice, and it is also when the city is at its most pleasant. For a fixed date we would rather hear about it early than be asked to conjure a car on a Saturday in June.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
