St James's lies between Piccadilly and the Mall, with St James's Street running down the middle of it and Pall Mall crossing at the bottom. It is the most formal district in London: the private members' clubs of Pall Mall and St James's Street, the shirtmakers and perfumers of Jermyn Street, the galleries of Bury Street and Duke Street, and the auction rooms of King Street. The people we drive here value discretion above almost everything, and the arrival is expected to be invisible.

St James's Street runs one way northbound towards Piccadilly, which shapes every approach to the clubs along it, and Pall Mall is one way eastbound for much of its length. The Mall is closed to traffic on Sundays and during ceremonial events, and Marlborough Road and Cleveland Row are restricted. The practical set-downs are King Street, Bury Street and the St James's Square side. The district sits inside the congestion charge zone, and the charge is handled quietly by us.

The reasons for a car here are unhurried ones. A lunch at a club that runs into the afternoon, a private view at a gallery, an auction where the lot you want comes up at an unpredictable hour, a fitting on Jermyn Street. None of these has a fixed finish, and none is improved by standing on Pall Mall in the rain hoping for a taxi. An hourly booking is the natural fit, with the car held on Bury Street or St James's Square.

Onward journeys tend south and west. Heathrow is typically 45 to 80 minutes via the Mall and the A4, or via Hyde Park Corner when the Mall is closed. Gatwick runs 55 to 95 minutes over Vauxhall Bridge. For Windsor and Ascot allow 60 to 90 minutes on an ordinary day and considerably more on a race day. London City is usually 35 to 60 minutes east along the Embankment, avoiding the West End altogether.

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Clients Choose Us for St James's

  • 01

    Below the radar

No branding, no idling at the frontage, no conversation at the door. The car is simply there, and afterwards nobody can describe it.

  • 02

    Time that stays open

A lunch at a club rarely ends when the diary says. The vehicle is held for the duration rather than booked against a time you will miss.

  • 03

    Ceremonial days handled

State occasions close the Mall and Horse Guards without much warning. We check the closures the morning of, and approach from Piccadilly instead.

  • 04

    Room for purchases

A framed lot from a King Street saleroom, shirts from Jermyn Street, a case of wine — all of it travels in the boot rather than in your arms.

At a Glance

St James's

  • Invisible arrivals

Unmarked cars and a chauffeur who waits without drawing a glance — the standard St James's expects.

  • One-way street knowledge

St James's Street and Pall Mall each run one way, so the approach is settled before you set off.

  • Open-ended lunches

The car is held for as long as the table lasts rather than booked for a time that will be missed.

Local Knowledge

Reading the district's one-way logic

St James's is small enough to walk across in minutes and awkward enough to drive badly. St James's Square circulates one way around its garden, with limited bays and a queue for them by mid-morning. Jermyn Street is narrow, runs one way and has its loading bays taken early. The short cul-de-sacs off St James's Street will hold a saloon briefly but leave no room to turn a longer vehicle.

The boundaries do most of the work. Piccadilly runs predominantly eastbound and is a red route where stopping is not permitted at any hour. Haymarket carries traffic one way southbound towards Pall Mall East. Waterloo Place drops from Regent Street to the Mall and is useful when it is open, which on a ceremonial morning it will not be. Duke of York Street and Ryder Street are the quiet options most drivers overlook.

The hours here are gentler than anywhere else in the West End. Mornings are near-silent; the district wakes at lunchtime and stays busy until the private views empty around eight. Evenings are quiet again and Sundays quieter still, with much of the area closed and the Mall given over to pedestrians. The whole district sits inside the central charging zone, and the charge is arranged within your booking rather than mentioned on the day.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  1. 01

    Tell us the journey

Send the date, the addresses and the shape of the day on WhatsApp, or use the journey planner. There is no obligation and no card details are taken to get a price.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Luxury London — Luxury Chauffeurs
Business chauffeur travel — St James's

Corporate & Business

Quiet money, quiet travel

The businesses of St James's are the discreet kind: private banks, family offices, investment houses and the professional advisers who sit alongside them. Their travel is correspondingly understated. A principal collected from home for a nine o'clock meeting on the Square, a trustee moved to a solicitor and back, a visiting family met at a private terminal and brought in without anyone at the office being told.

Discretion is a working requirement rather than a marketing line. Chauffeurs do not discuss passengers, destinations or who was in the car yesterday, and cars carry nothing that identifies them. Where a household or an office arranges travel on someone's behalf, one contact handles the whole diary, and the person actually travelling is asked to do nothing beyond walking out of the door.

Who We Drive

Who Travels with Us for St James's

  • Club members

People whose week includes lunch on Pall Mall and who value a car that never makes an entrance on their behalf.

  • Collectors and dealers

Buyers attending viewings on Bury Street and salerooms on King Street, where the hour a lot comes up is anybody's guess.

  • Private office principals

Individuals whose affairs are run from the wealth managers and family offices around St James's Square, with movements arranged by someone else entirely.

  • Hotel guests

Visitors staying between Piccadilly and the Mall who want one arrangement covering the whole stay rather than a fresh decision each morning.

Events & Occasions

Viewings, lunches and ceremony

The occasions here are unhurried and rarely have an end time. A private view that turns into dinner, a saleroom session where your lot moves from third to thirtieth, a club lunch that becomes an afternoon. All of them are improved by a car held nearby and ruined by one booked for half past three. We would rather hold the vehicle than have you watching a clock.

The ceremonial calendar is the other consideration. Trooping the Colour in June, state visits and remembrance occasions close the Mall, Horse Guards Road and Constitution Hill for hours at a time, with diversions reaching well into Westminster. Where you are attending, we set down as close as the cordon allows and agree the collection point at the same time. Where you are simply passing through, we go the long way round from the start.

Timing & Availability

The district's own calendar

St James's runs to a rhythm of its own. The auction seasons and the gallery weeks concentrate demand into particular stretches of spring and early summer, and the June ceremonial dates should be assumed to affect any journey through the area. The district thins considerably in August, when a great deal of it takes the same few weeks off, and short notice becomes easy.

Race weeks and the summer season pull cars out of London altogether, so Ascot, Goodwood and the Henley dates are worth settling months rather than days in advance. For everything else, a message on WhatsApp with the date, the rough shape of the day and whether the finish is known is enough for us to say honestly what can be held and what cannot.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
