Luggage is the reason a Cullinan gets booked as often as the weather is. It is the only Rolls-Royce with a load area rather than a boot, and the only one that can take a family away for a fortnight without a second car following behind it. That said, capability invites optimism, and optimism is what fills a pavement with cases that will not go in.

The figures here are given in suitcases, because that is what you own and count. They assume cases lying flat with the parcel cover in place, which is how a chauffeur will actually load the car, and they leave enough margin for the tailgate to close without anybody leaning on it. Where the seat layout changes the answer, it is set out rather than glossed over.

The number to plan around

Three large checked cases with three cabin bags is the working figure, and it holds with four people aboard and nothing folded. That is enough for two couples away for a week, or a family with a fortnight of clothes, and it is considerably more than a Ghost or a Phantom will accept. The load floor is flat and close to square, which is why the number is as high as it is.

Push beyond that and you are into stacking, which is fine for soft bags and unwise for hard shells above the level of the seat backs. Anything loaded higher than the backrest needs securing, and on a long run it will be. If your load looks like four large cases with four people, say so before the day and the layout gets checked rather than left to luck.

What the folding bench adds

Cars commissioned with the lounge bench have a rear seat that folds, and it turns the vehicle from a large SUV into something closer to an estate car. With the bench down the floor runs a long way forward and swallows items that will not go into any saloon at any angle. The catch is obvious: every seat folded is a passenger who is no longer travelling in the car.

Individual-seat cars do not fold at all, and often carry a fixed glass partition behind the seats. On those the load area is simply what it is, which remains generous, but there is no expanding it for a long item. This is the single most useful thing to establish before booking, and it is the first question asked whenever somebody mentions skis or a bicycle.

Loads it takes that the saloons will not

The list below is the practical difference between this motor car and the rest of the range, and it is why clients choose it for the countryside. Most of these items defeat a Ghost or a Phantom completely and would otherwise require a second vehicle following on behind. Some still need the rear bench folded, so treat the list as the start of a conversation rather than a guarantee.

Two things decide whether any of it works: the seat layout and the length of the item. Nothing on the list will fit at all in a car with individual rear seats and a fixed partition, and several of them need the bench down even in a lounge-configured car. Send the lengths with your enquiry and the answer comes back without any hedging.

  • Golf clubs for two, standing at an angle behind the seats
  • Skis and boot bags for a family, with the bench folded down
  • Shoot equipment in slips, gun cases and cartridge bags
  • A folded wheelchair or walking frame alongside ordinary luggage
  • Two large dog crates, on cars where the bench folds flat
  • Boxed artwork or framed pictures laid flat on the floor

The lip, and how it loads

The load floor sits high, as it does in any tall vehicle, so a heavy case is lifted rather than slid. The lower half of the split tailgate takes the weight during that lift, which makes a real difference to a chauffeur handling several cases in succession and to anyone helping. Cars whose air suspension can be lowered at a control make the job easier again, and most passengers never notice it happening.

The opening itself is wide and the sides are close to vertical, so square cases sit tidily instead of wedging at an angle. What eats into the space is the parcel cover and the sloping glass above it, which means the top of the load has to stay level with the seat backs. Plan flat and wide rather than tall and you will get considerably more in.

Where it still runs out

It is not a van, and the temptation to treat it as one should be resisted. Ski gear for eight, a full exhibition stand, or the luggage for a family of five going abroad for a month all exceed it, and no amount of clever loading changes that. When the load is genuinely large, a luxury MPV takes it comfortably and lets the Cullinan carry the people who wanted to travel in a Cullinan.

There are also things that should not travel in it at all. Anything wet, oily, sharp or heavily soiled belongs in a different vehicle, because the load area is trimmed to cabin standard and lined in materials that mark. Protective covers are carried and laid before loading, but a cover only does so much against a chainsaw or a bag of muddy rugby kit.

Getting the answer before the day

Send a count rather than a description. Large cases first, then cabin bags, then the awkward item you have been carefully not mentioning, with a rough length for anything long and rigid. That is half a minute of typing and it settles the vehicle question completely, including whether the seating layout you need can be found for your date at all. Guessing costs far more time on the morning.

Rolls-Royce motor cars are arranged from our own vehicles and from a vetted network of professional chauffeur operators. Because each is an individual commission, the rear layout, the partition and the presence of folding seats vary from car to car, and all of it is subject to availability and confirmed with your booking. Message us on WhatsApp or by email and we will confirm what applies to yours.

  • Large checked cases, counted rather than estimated
  • Cabin cases and holdalls, which pack around the big items
  • Anything longer than about a metre, with its length noted
  • Sports equipment, and whether it travels in a hard case
  • Pushchairs, cots or wheelchairs, with their folded dimensions
  • Whether the rear seats must stay up for passengers

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Choose Luxury Chauffeurs

  • 01

    Held, not hailed

The car is reserved against your name for the whole booking. Nothing is pooled, nothing is reallocated, and no algorithm decides who arrives at your door.

  • 02

    Priced in writing

Distance, duration, vehicle and timing are worked out before you commit, then confirmed in writing, so the figure you agree is the figure for the journey.

  • 03

    London and beyond

A short run across Mayfair and an unhurried drive to the Highlands are arranged with the same care, by the same people, under one booking.

  • 04

    Discretion as habit

Unbranded vehicles, chauffeurs who speak only when spoken to, and a rear compartment where a confidential call needs no lowering of the voice.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  1. 01

    Tell us the journey

Send the date, the addresses and the shape of the day on WhatsApp, or use the journey planner. There is no obligation and no card details are taken to get a price.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Corporate & Business

Business Travel Across Britain

Corporate chauffeur work runs to a diary rather than a postcode. Meetings overrun, a signing drags past six, and the airport leg still has to make check-in. Because the vehicle is committed to your booking, a revised plan costs a message rather than a fresh price. Accounts can be arranged so individual travellers never handle payment, and the paperwork is kept plain enough for a finance team to reconcile without chasing anybody.

The rear compartment is treated as a working space. Cabins are quiet enough for a confidential call, papers can stay open on the seat between stops, and chauffeurs understand that what is overheard is not repeated. Roadshows, board visits and conference movements involving several cars are coordinated centrally, so one person holds the schedule and one thread carries every change to it.

Before You Send

What to Tell Us

None of it is compulsory. The more you include, the sooner we can reply with a firm written price rather than a question.

  1. 01

    Where and when

Pickup and destination addresses, the date, and the time you need to arrive rather than leave.

  2. 02

    Who is travelling

Passenger numbers, large cases and cabin bags, and the ages of any children so we fit the right seats.

  3. 03

    The shape of the day

One journey, a return, or a car held for several hours. Say if the timings might move.

  4. 04

    Flight or event details

A flight number lets us plan around the published schedule; an event name tells us which gate and which traffic plan.

  5. 05

    Vehicle preference

A category is enough — or ask us to recommend one for the party and the distance.

  6. 06

    Anything else

Accessibility requirements, a preferred route, a stop on the way, or a quiet car with no conversation.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
