The usual shape is simple. We collect you from the airport on the day you land, hold the car for the days you are here, and return you for your outbound flight. In between, the chauffeur is available for whatever the stay involves: dinner across town, a meeting in the City, an afternoon in Knightsbridge, a day trip to Windsor. One arrangement covers all of it.

The advantage over booking each journey separately is that nothing needs explaining twice. Your chauffeur already knows which hotel entrance to use, where the car can wait without blocking the forecourt, that you are always ten minutes later than planned in the mornings, and that the restaurant on Thursday is difficult to reach by the obvious route.

We are an independent chauffeur service and hold no partnership with any hotel, which means we work for you rather than for a house arrangement. If your concierge is coordinating on your behalf we are glad to take instructions from them and keep them informed, and equally happy to deal with you directly by message.

Bookings are usually structured as hourly blocks on the days you need the car, or full days where the schedule is busy. Send your dates, your hotel and a rough sense of the week on WhatsApp and we will propose the arrangement that costs least for what you actually intend to do. If the week is still taking shape, an outline is enough to begin with and the detail can be settled once you have arrived.

Structuring a car around your stay

Two shapes cover most stays. Hourly blocks are taken on the days you need the car, with a minimum of a few hours at a time, and suit a visit built around two or three fixed commitments a day. A full day holds the car and chauffeur from the morning until you release him, and works out better once you pass three or four movements. Airport arrival and departure can sit inside either, priced as transfers at each end.

The commonest misjudgement is booking too little and then extending piecemeal, which costs more than taking the block in the first place and risks the car being committed elsewhere. The second is not mentioning that the week is unsettled. An outline is enough to start with, and it is easier for us to hold hours and release them than to find a car at nine on a Wednesday evening. Hotel forecourts are also more restricted than they look, and where a car may not stand we agree an alternative point on the first day.

A stay usually begins with the arrival transfer, which is when the practical details get settled: which door you prefer, where the car will wait, how much time you actually need in the mornings. After that each block runs the same way. The chauffeur is at the entrance a few minutes early, stays with the car between stops, and is released when the block ends rather than idling on a meter. On departure day the luggage goes into the boot after breakfast and the last hours are yours.

For a week of meetings, the hotel becomes an office and the car becomes the corridor between it and everywhere else. Mornings tend to be fixed and afternoons tend to move, so we hold the block across both and reflow the middle by message. Papers and a laptop bag stay in the locked car between appointments rather than being carried through three receptions.

Where a company is putting up visiting staff or clients, one arrangement can cover several guests in the same hotel, each with their own schedule and one account at the end. We take instructions from an assistant, a travel manager or the concierge desk equally happily, and we will copy whoever needs to know into the confirmations without being asked twice.

The evenings are where a held car earns its place. Daytime tends to be looser. An hour in Knightsbridge that becomes three, a museum with the children, lunch out of town, or a day at Windsor or Oxford that returns in time to change for dinner. Because the same car covers all of it, plans can be decided over breakfast rather than the night before, and a change of mind costs a message.

The London hotel calendar

Cars are hardest to hold when the city is full: the weeks of the large trade fairs and conferences, the summer months when family visitors arrive, and the run from late November to Christmas. If your stay falls in one of those, reserve the car when you reserve the room, even if the schedule inside the week is still unwritten.

Outside those periods a few days of notice is comfortable, and adding an evening to an existing booking can often be done the same day. Very early departures and late arrivals are routine and need no special arrangement beyond telling us. If the stay extends, we would rather know as early as you do, because keeping the same chauffeur is much easier than finding him again.
