A Shopping Chauffeur for London's Best Streets

The point of a shopping chauffeur is that you never carry anything, and never once think about where the car is parked.

A shopping day is nearly always an hourly booking. The chauffeur sets you down at the top of Bond Street or outside Harrods, then holds nearby. When your hands are full you send a message, he meets you at the door, takes the bags to the boot and you carry on unencumbered. Over an afternoon this happens three or four times and it changes the day entirely.

Parking in Mayfair, Knightsbridge and Chelsea is the real problem a chauffeur solves. There is very little of it, what exists is expensive, and the walk from it defeats the object of shopping in those streets in the first place. With a car and a chauffeur, the boutique door is the drop-off point and the return journey begins wherever you happen to finish.

Boot space is worth thinking about in advance. A saloon copes easily with an afternoon on Sloane Street. A serious day across several stores, or shopping for a house, wants a V-Class, and if you are collecting something large from a showroom, tell us the dimensions when you book so we bring a vehicle that will genuinely take it.

The same arrangement suits Bicester Village and the designer outlets outside London, where the drive is the awkward part and the coach alternative is nobody's idea of a good day. Lunch, an appointment at a personal shopping suite and an early dinner all fit comfortably inside one booking. Book the car for the full day if you are going that far out, because the return leg in Friday traffic is not something you want to be arranging from a car park.

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Clients Choose Us for Shopping Chauffeur

  • 01

    Appointments kept precisely

Personal shopping suites hold their slots strictly, and being set down at the right door a few minutes early is worth more than leaving home early.

  • 02

    Discreet about purchases

Unmarked cars and a chauffeur who does not remark on what goes into the boot. What you have bought is nobody else's business.

  • 03

    Alterations and collections

The unglamorous half of a shopping day: returning something for alteration, collecting a repair, or taking a purchase on to a second address entirely.

  • 04

    The car as base

Coats, umbrellas and the morning's finds live in the vehicle, so the afternoon is not spent carrying the morning around three more streets.

At a Glance

Shopping Chauffeur

  • Bags to the boot

Message when your hands are full and the chauffeur meets you at the door to take everything away.

  • No parking problem

Mayfair and Knightsbridge parking is scarce and far from the shops. The boutique door becomes your drop-off.

  • Sized for the day

A saloon for an afternoon, a V-Class for a serious day or anything collected from a showroom.

Local Knowledge

How a shopping day is arranged

Shopping is an hourly arrangement, since the car spends most of the day waiting rather than moving. Waiting is what you are paying for, so there is no separate charge for the hour the chauffeur spends outside a boutique. Central London charges sit inside the quoted figure. A day at an out-of-town outlet is quoted as a full day including the drive in both directions, which is more sensible than counting hours you cannot control.

People underestimate the hours and overestimate the geography. An afternoon on one street is realistic; Bond Street, Sloane Street and Selfridges in the same four hours is not, once you allow for the traffic between them. The other thing worth mentioning at the booking stage is anything large. A rug, a piece of furniture, a framed picture or a case of wine changes the vehicle entirely, and the dimensions are far more useful to us than a description.

The day has a simple rhythm. You are set down at one end of a street and walk it in one direction rather than doubling back. The chauffeur holds within a few minutes of you and appears at the shop door on a message, so the boot absorbs the morning as it accumulates. Lunch is booked somewhere with a door a car can reach. Fittings and suite appointments are treated as fixed points, and the browsing is arranged around them rather than the other way about.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  1. 01

    Tell us the journey

Send the date, the addresses and the shape of the day on WhatsApp, or use the journey planner. There is no obligation and no card details are taken to get a price.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Corporate & Business

Buying trips and trade appointments

Buyers, stylists and interior designers work to appointment lists rather than to a wander, and the car makes the list achievable. Showrooms in Chelsea and Pimlico, fabric houses, an auction viewing, a warehouse somewhere unglamorous in the east: samples and swatches travel in the boot and the schedule survives contact with the traffic. Where a purchase has to reach a client or a site the same day, that leg can sit inside the booking.

Companies also use a shopping car for guests. A client with a free afternoon before a dinner, a visiting delegation with gifts to buy, or a relocating executive being shown the practical parts of London as well as the elegant ones. It is invoiced to the company, and the chauffeur is briefed to be helpful without hovering.

Who We Drive

Who Travels with Us for Shopping Chauffeur

  • Visitors with a list

Guests in London for a few days with specific things to find, who do not want to spend half of that time looking for parking.

  • Stylists and personal shoppers

Professionals moving clients between fittings and suites on a schedule, where a car waiting outside is the difference between three appointments and two.

  • Brides and their parties

Fittings, shoes, a mother, two attendants and a dress that must not be creased, all of which travel considerably better by private car.

  • Buying for a house

Interior clients working through showrooms, auction viewings and fabric houses, where the day tends to end with more in the boot than anyone expected.

Events & Occasions

Fittings, gifts and celebrations

A great deal of shopping is tied to an occasion. A wedding dress fitting with two attendants and a mother, a morning suit hired and returned, a christening present chosen properly, or the outfit for a race meeting that needs a hat from a milliner three districts away. These days involve several appointments and awkward parcels, which is precisely the shape a chauffeur suits.

December is the busiest month for exactly this reason. Gift buying across several stores, collections to pick up, and things that must not be seen by the people they are for, all in the shortest daylight of the year and the heaviest traffic. A car that carries the parcels and knows where it can stop turns an exhausting errand into a rather pleasant day.

Timing & Availability

The retail calendar in London

Saturdays in the West End are the hardest days to move around and the hardest to book at short notice; a weekday morning achieves the same shopping in half the time. The sales in late December and June, the fortnight before Christmas, and the days around a bank holiday all fill early. Outside those, two or three days of notice is usually enough.

Out-of-town outlet days are worth booking further ahead, particularly at weekends and in the sale weeks, when the roads out are slow in both directions and a full-day car is the only comfortable way to do it. If your plans depend on an appointment you have not yet secured, take the car for the day you hope for; releasing it is easier than finding one on a Friday in December.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
