The stretch of motorway on stilts through Port Talbot is the thing to plan around. It sits high and unprotected above the town, so wind restrictions arrive quickly, and with no hard shoulder worth the name even a minor incident closes a lane. When that happens traffic drops onto the A48 through the middle of town and the queue builds within minutes. Before anything timed we watch the forecast as closely as the traffic.

Away from the motorway the local pattern is straightforward.
