Junction 7 of the M11 at Epping is the town's front door, and the roundabout there together with the A414 towards Harlow is where the local delay concentrates in the morning. The newer Junction 7a north of the town has taken some pressure off the Harlow approach, and we use it when heading for the science park or the Stort valley. Southbound, the M11 meets the M25 at Junction 6 and that interchange is reliably slow from around half past six.

Tuesday is market day and the High Street parking disappears entirely from early morning until mid-afternoon, so collections that day are arranged from the side streets. The B1393 and the forest roads south towards Loughton are pretty and slow, with deer at dusk and cyclists at weekends, and we do not treat them as a bypass. Demand follows the calendar. Bank holiday weekends, the weeks either side of Christmas, the summer wedding season and the university terms that begin and end together all fill quickly, and the further from London a journey runs, the earlier a car should be committed to it. Midweek travel in the shoulder months is the easiest thing in the world to arrange.
