Travelling alone changes the calculation slightly. There is nobody to compare notes with when something feels off, nobody else who knows the plan, and no second opinion at eleven at night outside an unfamiliar station. Most of what improves the situation is unglamorous and happens before you leave: knowing which car is coming, who is driving it, and who else has that information.

This page sets out habits worth adopting whichever supplier you use, the checks that take fifteen seconds at the kerb, and a plain statement of what a chauffeur service can and cannot offer. Some of the reassurance sold around this subject is overstated, and it is more useful to know where the real limits sit than to be told everything is handled.

Why a pre-booked car helps

The main advantage is that nothing is decided at the kerb. A pre-booked journey means the vehicle, the registration and the name of the person driving are known to you before you leave the building, so arriving is a matter of matching what you were sent rather than assessing a stranger under time pressure. That single shift removes most of the situations where people talk themselves into a car they were not sure about.

There is a second, quieter benefit. Because the journey belongs to you rather than to a queue, the driver waits rather than pressing you. Nobody is losing money while you finish a call, look for a bag or decide whether to leave through a different door, and that absence of pressure makes it far easier to act on an instinct that something is not right.

What to settle before you travel

Get the essentials in writing: date, time, both addresses, the vehicle make, colour and registration, and the chauffeur's name. Ask for that as a message you can keep rather than a verbal confirmation, and check it looks like a real, coherent arrangement rather than a generic acknowledgement. A supplier that cannot tell you which car is coming until the moment it arrives has not allocated your booking properly.

Then share it. Send the details to somebody who is not travelling, along with your expected arrival time, and agree a simple message when you get there. This costs nothing, requires no application, and means somebody knows the shape of your evening. If your phone battery is likely to be marginal, deal with that before the journey rather than hoping.

Fifteen seconds at the kerb

Check the registration before the door, not after. Ask the driver who they are collecting rather than volunteering your own name, so the confirmation comes from them. If the car, the plate or the name does not match what you were sent, step back and contact the company. A legitimate chauffeur expects to be checked and will not be remotely offended by any of this.

Sit where you prefer rather than where you feel steered. Most people travelling alone are more comfortable in the rear, diagonally behind the driver, and there is no etiquette that requires otherwise. Keep your phone with you rather than in a bag in the boot, and keep a bag you would not want to lose in the cabin with you as well.

During the journey and after

You are entitled to a quiet journey. A professional chauffeur reads that quickly and will not press conversation, and if you would rather not talk it is perfectly reasonable to say so once and then say nothing further. Equally, if a route looks wrong, ask. There is usually an ordinary explanation involving a closure or a one-way system, and a chauffeur who answers plainly is a good sign.

If anything does feel wrong, act early rather than waiting to be certain. Ask to stop somewhere populated and well lit, which any professional driver will do without argument. Afterwards, tell the company in writing, even if the incident felt small and even if you would rather forget it. A supplier that never hears about the marginal things has no way of noticing a pattern.

Questions to ask any supplier

The following are worth asking once, at the point where you decide who to book with, and the answers should then hold good every time you use that company afterwards. Vagueness is informative in itself, particularly on the first two, which any properly organised operator answers immediately without needing to check anything at all. Send them as a message rather than raising them in conversation.

Notice how a company responds to being asked at all. A supplier that treats these as entirely reasonable and answers them plainly has almost certainly had the conversation before and thought about it since. A supplier that sounds faintly put out by the questions has told you something rather more useful than any of its individual answers. It costs nothing to find that out early.

  • Will I be sent the vehicle registration and chauffeur name in advance?
  • How do I confirm the person at the kerb is the right driver?
  • Is the work ever passed to another operator, and will you say so?
  • Who do I message if I am uneasy during a journey?
  • How do you handle a complaint about a chauffeur's conduct?
  • Can I ask for the same chauffeur on future bookings?
  • What details of my journey are kept, and for how long?

What a chauffeur service is not

It is worth being explicit here, because the language around this subject is often stretched. We are a chauffeur company. We do not provide security services, close protection or personal protection of any kind, and our chauffeurs are not security-trained or security-licensed. If your circumstances genuinely call for protective security, that is specialist work carried out by licensed providers, and we would tell you so rather than imply that a careful driver covers it.

Nor do we monitor your movements. What we offer is more modest and, for most people, more useful: a named professional chauffeur in a known vehicle, arranged in advance, with one point of contact who answers when you message. Discretion is part of the job, waiting is part of the job, and neither of those requires anybody to overstate what the service actually is.

In Short

Key Points

  2. 02Share the journey details and your expected arrival with someone else
  3. 03Check the plate first and let the driver confirm who they are collecting

  5. 05Chauffeur work is not security work, and nobody should claim otherwise

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Choose Luxury Chauffeurs

  • 01

    Held, not hailed

The car is reserved against your name for the whole booking. Nothing is pooled, nothing is reallocated, and no algorithm decides who arrives at your door.

  • 02

    Priced in writing

Distance, duration, vehicle and timing are worked out before you commit, then confirmed in writing, so the figure you agree is the figure for the journey.

  • 03

    London and beyond

A short run across Mayfair and an unhurried drive to the Highlands are arranged with the same care, by the same people, under one booking.

  • 04

    Discretion as habit

Unbranded vehicles, chauffeurs who speak only when spoken to, and a rear compartment where a confidential call needs no lowering of the voice.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  1. 01

    Tell us the journey

Send the date, the addresses and the shape of the day on WhatsApp, or use the journey planner. There is no obligation and no card details are taken to get a price.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Corporate & Business

Business Travel Across Britain

Corporate chauffeur work runs to a diary rather than a postcode. Meetings overrun, a signing drags past six, and the airport leg still has to make check-in. Because the vehicle is committed to your booking, a revised plan costs a message rather than a fresh price. Accounts can be arranged so individual travellers never handle payment, and the paperwork is kept plain enough for a finance team to reconcile without chasing anybody.

The rear compartment is treated as a working space. Cabins are quiet enough for a confidential call, papers can stay open on the seat between stops, and chauffeurs understand that what is overheard is not repeated. Roadshows, board visits and conference movements involving several cars are coordinated centrally, so one person holds the schedule and one thread carries every change to it.

Before You Send

What to Tell Us

None of it is compulsory. The more you include, the sooner we can reply with a firm written price rather than a question.

  1. 01

    Where and when

Pickup and destination addresses, the date, and the time you need to arrive rather than leave.

  2. 02

    Who is travelling

Passenger numbers, large cases and cabin bags, and the ages of any children so we fit the right seats.

  3. 03

    The shape of the day

One journey, a return, or a car held for several hours. Say if the timings might move.

  4. 04

    Flight or event details

A flight number lets us plan around the published schedule; an event name tells us which gate and which traffic plan.

  5. 05

    Vehicle preference

A category is enough — or ask us to recommend one for the party and the distance.

  6. 06

    Anything else

Accessibility requirements, a preferred route, a stop on the way, or a quiet car with no conversation.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
