Preston is where the M6, M55, M61 and M65 all converge, and that concentration is exactly why the motorway here is so often the problem. The junction 31 to 32 stretch, where the M55 and the Broughton interchange meet the M6, is among the most reliably congested in the north-west, particularly northbound on a Friday afternoon and southbound through the morning.
