Royal Ascot in June is the week that reshapes the whole area. Traffic management goes up on the A329 and A332, the car parks fill early, and journeys that normally take ten minutes can take three times that in the hour before the first race and again at the end of the afternoon. We set a departure time well before the crowd and agree an exact spot for the return, usually away from the main gates. Other fixtures through the year are busy but far more manageable.

Outside the racing, the A332 Windsor road and the A329 through Sunninghill are the two routes that matter, and both feel the M3 and M4 weekday peaks. The Great Park roads are narrow, unlit and closed to through traffic in places, so for houses on the Crown Estate or off the Wick Road we ask for gate details in advance. Golf events at Wentworth in the spring bring their own congestion along the A30 and A329 towards Virginia Water.

Britain's weather does more to a long journey than its traffic does. Winter afternoons close in early, which matters when the last leg is a single-track road, and Highland and moorland routes can take substantially longer than a summer estimate suggests. We build that into the timings rather than discovering it together, and where a departure hour makes a schedule uncomfortable we will suggest a better one.

Demand follows the calendar. Bank holiday weekends, the weeks either side of Christmas, the summer wedding season and the university terms that begin and end together all fill quickly, and the further from London a journey runs, the earlier a car should be committed to it. Midweek travel in the shoulder months is the easiest thing in the world to arrange.
