The station has exits onto Bishopsgate, into Broadgate and down to Liverpool Street itself, and they lead to completely different kerbs. For a car, the Broadgate side is usually best served from Eldon Street or Wilson Street; the Bishopsgate side from Blomfield Street or, at a quiet hour, from the top of Old Broad Street. We name the street and a landmark on it rather than saying the station, because the station has no single front.

Timing matters more here than location. Between about half past eight and half past nine the pavements around every exit are full and a car simply cannot get near, so we set the meeting point further out, often towards Finsbury Circus or Appold Street. Evenings from Thursday onwards bring a different crowd to the bars around Devonshire Square and Artillery Lane, and Middlesex Street slows accordingly. Sunday, when the market next door trades, is the exception in every direction.

London traffic is predictable enough to plan around and too variable to ignore. Weekday mornings into the centre and the long crawl outward from four until seven are the two windows that reshape a schedule, and we quote timings that reflect them rather than a mapping application on a quiet Sunday. Evening runs and weekends are considerably freer, and airport legs are the ones most worth padding.

Availability in the capital is deeper than anywhere else in the country, so short-notice requests are frequently workable, even the same day. The exceptions are the obvious ones: December evenings, the days of a major sporting or state occasion, and any Saturday in the wedding season. For those, book when the date is set rather than when the week finally arrives.
