The A46 bypass carries the town's serious traffic and links the M40 at Longbridge island to the M6 near Coventry. It runs well most of the time and badly whenever there is an incident on the M6 close to junction 2, since that is precisely where the diverted traffic goes. Within the town, the climb from Warwick Road up to Castle Green narrows sharply, and the castle's own approach was not built for waiting cars. Wedding parties at the older churches and the hotels along the ridge are best served by holding the car at a point a short walk away. Guests arriving by rail into Coventry are often met there instead, since the run down is only a quarter of an hour.
